Family Guy Season 7 - Baby Not On Board

Family Guy, TV 2 Comments »

Stewie is left Home Alone

The forth episode of Family Guy’s brand new season 7, entitled ‘Baby Not On Board‘.

‘Baby Not On Board‘ aired on Fox in the US November 2nd 2008.

In this Family Guy episode we see parodies of Back To The Future, Home Alone, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Ghost and loads of other things I cant’ even begin to name (tell me any you spotted).

Peter Griffin at Ground Zero, but not AIDS Ground Zero.‘Baby Not On Board‘ revolves mostly around Stewie being left home alone and the antics he gets upto.

But the bit that I laughed loudest at was when Peter stands at Ground Zero in New York and says in awe:

So this is where the first guy got AIDS?!

Peter buys a Space Shuttle at a NASA yard sale. Also In ‘Baby Not On Board‘ Peter griffin buys a discount Space Shuttle at a NASA yard sale and goes into space to escape Lois’ nagging.

I was almost in tears when he came back and said that masturbating in zero gravity is:

…great, except after a while it’s like living in a snow-globe.

‘Baby Not On Board‘ - Parodies
Family Guy ‘Baby Not On Board‘ does a parody of several films:

  • Peter Griffin plays Marty McFly in a parody of Back To The Future.Peter Griffin parodies the opening scene of Marty McFly skateboarding to school from ‘Back To The Future‘. It’s been two weeks running that Family Guy has featured a parody of ‘Back To The Future‘. I’m not complaining though, it’s one of my favourite films!
  • Peter Griffin gets a massage from the couple from ‘Ghost‘ re-enacting the potter’s wheel scene on his back using his fat as faux clay.
  • When Peter Griffin defends his purchase of helium filled shower curtain rings instead of train tickets home using a song; that’s a parody of ‘Planes, Trains, and Automobiles‘.
  • The song the Griffins sing in the car is Bette Midler’s song ‘The Rose‘.
  • Joe Swanson sings a parody of The Rifleman’s Creed as he is cleaning his wheelchair; this is a reference to ‘Full Metal Jacket‘.

Family Guy Spin-Off » The Cleveland Show
In mid September I wrote a blog about Cleveland’s upcoming Family Guy spin-off, The Cleveland Show.

In the final moments of ‘Baby Not On Board‘, Cleveland mentions to Quagmire that he’s getting his own spin-off as a perfectly understated teaser.

Family Guy Spin-Off » The Cleveland Show

Family Guy spin-off, The Cleveland ShowI have just found out there’s going to be a new Family Guy spin-off show, ‘The Cleveland Show’.

According to Fox’s Press Release, Family Guy spin-off show ‘The Cleveland Show’ is merely a working title for the series which will see Family Guy’s Cleveland Brown move from Quahog, Rhode Island to the town of Stoolbend, Virginia.

The Cleveland Show - Production
‘The Cleveland Show’ will be written and executive-produced by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad), Rich Appel (The Simpsons, King of The Hill) and Mike Henry (Family Guy).

Family Guy spin-off show, ‘The Cleveland Show’ is set to debut in the US on the Fox network in 2009.

The Cleveland Show - Plot
Cleveland Brown is a funny character in Family Guy, but I’m not sure he’s a ‘breakout character’ as such. Glenn Quagmire definately is, maybe even Mayor Adam West, either of those two could easily justify their own spin-off show, but Cleveland, I’m not so sure.

Cleveland will have some surpises instore for him including a flirtatious new stepdaughter, a 5-year-old stepson who loves the ladies, as well as a collection of neighbors that includes a loudmouth redneck couple, a British family seemingly stuck in the Victorian era and a family of bears living at the end of the block.

The Cleveland Show - Style
I’m assuming the style of ‘The Cleveland Show’ will be a little more narrative-driven, like The Simpsons or American Dad. I’m not sure anyone outside of a mental asylum would have the imagination to write two Family Guy -esque shows full of non-sequiturs at the same time.

In the past Family Guy has been criticised for its continual use of non-sequiturs; in my opinion its the bizarre and random nature of Family Guy that makes it my favourite animated show, ever.
