New Star Trek Movie - High Quality Trailer

November 19th, 2008

Here’s the new ‘Star Trek Movie‘ trailer in high quality. This version of the new ‘Star Trek Movie‘ trailer is the first to include Spock (16 Dec 08).

If you enjoyed this trailer for the new Star Trek Movie, please leave a comment.

It took ages to find a high quality trailer for the new ‘Star Trek Movie‘.

Personally, I would shit myself in this situation. It looks from this new ‘Star Trek Movie‘ trailer like James Kirk was a mischievous little shit as a boy, presumably the mysterious alien-robot-thing encourages him to try harder.

I think showing the origins of the ‘Star Trek‘ characters and how they came to be on the Enterprise will bring more ‘human interest’ to ‘Star Trek‘ which in the last decade began to revolve more around technology than people; maybe the reason for it’s decline?

I like the gritty, blue collar Earth in this new ‘Star Trek Movie‘ trailer. It seems from the trailer that J.J. Abrams has gone for a blue collar Earth like in ‘Aliens‘ rather than a lush, beautiful, utopian Earth usually seen in ‘Star Trek‘ movies.

What car is it that James Kirk is driving and probably stolen in the trailer? I have no idea about cars, least of all American ones.

Enterprise Lands At Gatwick… In Google Earth

October 27th, 2008

This weekend I had a play around with Google Earth’s new API using it’s new browser plugin.

Enterprise D Lands At GatwickAfter some photoshopping and a lot of conversions (from pixels to metres to nautical miles to degrees of lat/long then divide by two), I managed to land a perfect scale replica of the Enterprise D at my local airport, London Gatwick.

Gatwick might be the world’s busiest single runway airport, but with the Enterprise on the tarmac, it made it look like a petrol station.

I did this by creating a transparent PNG of the Enterprise D and then mashing it into Google Earth as a ground overlay. The calculations were relatively simple. The hardest part was parking the Enterprise by nudging it in increments of about 100 metres. That about as precise as washing your finest crockery using a baseball bat.

Google’s Google Earth plugin is a bit shakey at the moment and is only available in Firefox and IE on Windows, but soon I’ll create a tutorial section showcasing a few of the things I’ve learnt.
