New York Gets Jack’D – 24 Season 8

New York Gets Jack’D – 24 Season 8

For the past couple of months my life has pretty much been dominated by the TV show 24, we’ve watched Seasons 2, 3 and 4 back-to-back and we’re now ploughing through season 5 at a rate of knots. We’ve been watching an average of 4 episodes a night on DVD when myself, Kelly and DJ have been in together and it’s been incredible.

We watched Season 7 weekly as it aired (begining January 2009) so we’ve been gagging to see Season 8 for about 9 months. Recently we’ve begun to see trailers and teasers about 24 Season 8 which begins its run on US television Jan 17th 2010. Set in New York City (but not actually filmed on location), 24 Season 8 will see Jack attempt to stop an assassination attempt at the United Nations and re-open CTU’s New York office. Season 8 of 24 has the tag-line “New York Gets Jack’D”.

24_season_8_ny_gets_jackedI can’t wait for 24 Season 8 to begin airing on UK television, watching Season 7 was a weekly ritual for our group. Apparently the assassination attempt will be made during a Peace Conference between US President Allison Taylor and President Omar Hassan of the (fictional) Islamic Republic of Kamistan.

The writers of 24 always seems to invent fictional places for bad guys to emanate from.

Presumably this is because American audiences, famous to their inability to discern fact from fiction, would begin to bare real life grudges against people from those countries. Things like that somehow seem to happen in America. But in this country people spit at Adam Woodyatt because he plays arsehole Ian Beale on Eastenders, so I suppose we can be somewhat divorced from reality at times too.

Sangala, an African nation that General Juma wanted to appoint himself leader of in Season 7, was a thinly veiled Rwanda.

The dramatis personae for 24 Season 8 has a lot of Russian names on it so perhaps Kamistan will be a thinly veiled Afghanistan as that too is an Islamic Republic that has a history of conflict with the Soviets.

Anyway, I can’t wait for Season 8.
